"I've seen the changes in collecting since the days when I would tag along with Mamma (Mary Waldrop) to garage sales and auctions. Thirty years ago, ladies who were buying antiques were interested in fine glass. Now today's generation seems to be very interested in collecting objects that remind them of their own grandmother's kitchen. Even Mamma has seen the cycle of interest, beginning with primitives. Then her interests changed to better glassware, furniture, art glass and collectible glassware of all kinds, and now she is back to primitives. In the spring, we went to the antique road show in Austin. It was a thrill and so interesting watching how the show is put together after enjoying it so long on PBS, even if our mechanical toys and Orientals were not selected for viewing on the show. I think that antiques give us a wonderful connection to the past, an appreciation of what life was like. Antiques are my passion!"
