Editoral, Brownwood Bulletin
Brownwood, Texas located in the geographic "heart" of Texas with a population of
20,407 held the first Brownwood Reunion Celebration in the fall of 2001. The purpose
of the Celebration was to launch the "world's best small town web site," and in doing so,
share with friends and family around the corner and around the world all the wonderful things about living in Brownwood, Texas, U.S.A. We do think big in Texas.
Just how to make it happen was another matter. The citizens turned to an expert, Roy Spence Jr. Spence is President of GSD&M, an internationally known ad agency. More importantly, Spence is a true blue native son of Brownwood. He and his associates at GSD&M came up with the wonderful gift of creating a community web site.
To launch it, Spence gave us the incredible idea of hosting the first world wide Reunion via web cams placed in the festival areas and viewed in real time on Brownwoods new web site.
The creation of this web site was a significant gift to the City and the idea for a huge festival, incredible. However, even more incredible was the fact that Brownwood volunteers took the idea and within six months created the first Brownwood Reunion Celebration with 15,000 showing up for the fun and successes that went far beyond anyones expectations.
The Reunion is the first ever to be hosted live around the world via web cams strategically placed throughout the reunion area. It truly is a worldwide homecoming. The Virtual Reunion area allows those attending the Reunion in real time to log on, wave to the web cams, send a photo, and connect with family and friends around the corner and around the world who are sharing the fun virtually.
The Celebration covers a large part of the City with tents, booths, stages, and 23 city block filled with continuous live music, nationally known entertainment, and activities for children of all ages. In the fall of 2005, approximately 30,000 folks attended and thousands via the web from over 28 different States and as far away as Australia.
Each year, our business and civic sponsors and approximately 1500+ hands-on volunteers create the Brownwood Reunion Celebration; and, each year the unqualified success of the Reunion, continues to exceed all our expectations.
Every year the Brownwood Reunion Celebration is bigger and better and next years Reunion is already in the planning stages. You want to know why does a community of 1500+ volunteers do this each year? We do this for them, the children. Join us. It feels like home.
