When you mention Brownwood, Texas to someone, you're likely to get one of three responses. 1) "Oh, isn't that down by the Mexican border?" 2) "I know where that is. I've been to Underwood's." 3) "That's the home of the Brownwood Lions. We know about them, they beat us back in the playoffs in..."
Brownwood Lions Football is the epitome of Texas high-school football. The Lions have won seven state championships, and you can bet there are more to come. There are legendary coaches, players and games. Lions football isn't the only thing that happens in Brownwood. Unless it's a Friday night in the fall then it is the only thing.

Texas Monthly lists attending a Brownwood Lions football game as one of 50 things every Texan should do:
24. Sit in the stands at the Brownwood Lions-Stephenville YellowJackets football game this fall.
The annual clash pits longtime rivals from towns only 61 miles apart and exemplifies Friday-night lights in all their glory. In these communities, football is both entertainment and obsession, thanks in no small part to each school's reputation for producing winners: The Lions have taken seven state championships and former coach Gordon Wood won more games than any Texas high-school football coach, but during the '90s the Jackets dominated the match-up while winning four state championships. Buy that ticket well in advance.
