The vision of Brownwood I.S.D. is to be an exemplary school district as evidenced by student achievement in both academic and extracurricular activities and by the integrity of the organization. Blue Ribbon School
Woodland Heights Elementary was named a 2005 Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. Representatives from Woodland Heights attended a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November, 2005. They were also recognized by the Texas Education Agency in January, 2006.
Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll Schools
Both Northwest Elementary and Woodland Heights Elementary were named to the Texas Business and Education Coalition list of Honor Roll Schools. This is a great honor for the elementary schools, Brownwood I.S.D. and the community of Brownwood.
Title I Distinguished School
Woodland Heights Elementary was not only a state Exemplary campus but also named as a Title I Distinguished School. Woodland was the only campus in Region XV of Texas to receive these honors.
State Championship Accounting Team
Brownwood High Schools accounting team took first place honors at the State University Interscholastic League Academic Meet in May, 2006. Team members are Haven Seward, Matt Roddam, Jason Karnes, and Lindsey Pacatte. The team sponsor is Ann Ellis.
U.I.L. Computer Applications State Runner-up
Isaiah Cisneroz was second in the state in Computer Applications. Doris Woolery is the team sponsor.
Renovation to Facilities
With the passage of a $29.4 million dollar bond election in 2005, the district is currently upgrading all instructional facilities. The high school will see the most extensive renovation but upgrades will be evident at the middle school as well as all elementary schools. Brownwood I.S.D. Curriculum
Brownwood I.S.D. has the most extensive college-prep curriculum in the Brown County Area. Brownwood High School offers Advanced Placement courses as well as dual credit enrollment opportunities with Howard Payne University and the Texas State Technical College in Brownwood. The high school also offers four years of both Spanish and French as well as a wide range of business and technology courses. With approximately 1000 students in the high school, there are a wide array of both curricular and extra-curricular opportunities. In addition to advanced coursework, students can participate in outstanding Theatre Arts programs, Fine Arts programs, athletics, Future Farmers of America leadership contests, as well as other career and technology competitions.
